Kathy's Midwifery Philosophies

My midwifery philosophy is one of embracing the natural as much as safely possible, including:

• Encouraging the woman to utilise complementary naturopathic therapies - under the guidance of appropriately qualified practitioners - including herbalism, homeopathy, aromatherapy and acupuncture. 
  
• Encouraging the woman to embrace naturopathic pain relief, including mobilisation (ie freedom of movement during labour) and hydrotherapy (i.e. a birthing pool). 
• Respecting that pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal periods are a natural woman's life experience. Most pregnant, birthing or postnatal women (and babies) are usually well and therefore capable of having a normal vaginal birth, free of intervention.
• Also respecting that pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal periods are not always normal and may require appropriate specialist referral (eg obstetrician, paediatrician).
