On today’s episode, is all about MATERNAL WELL-BEING: BP Temp & Pulse; Lochia vaginal bleeding; Womb fundal height; pending Baby Blues; and Discussing when “clinically ready for discharge” (Goal: Successful establishment of Breastfeeding); & More and NEWBORN WELL-BEING: Feed-feed-feed; Urine & Bowel output; Umbilicus belly-button; Conjunctivitis sticky-eye; & More. Do also make sure you are feeling fully informed on the Hearing Screen, the Guthries Screen, and preventatives for SUDI/SIDS/CotDeath.

Episode 14: POST-NATAL EP 03 - DAY3-4 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW AT THIS STAGE POSTPARTUM

It is such a unique time when the baby is over two days old, but your full-milk hasn’t yet fully arrived – and of course, there are lots to know about on this steep learning curve!

MATERNAL:

  • Blues ending > Milk arriving
  • Post-birth examinations (breasts, perineum, C-section wound)
  • Psychologically feeling confident in the home environment
  • Awareness of Signs & Symptoms for Postnatal Infections e.g. Fever/Flu-like, especially Breast mastitis (red patches/streak), and Womb entometritis/puerperal sepsis (abdo cramps, foul-smelling discharge)
  • Self-Care (rest, support, daily multi)
  • Access to assistance & advice on breastfeeding & lactation

NEONATAL:

  • Physical well-being (vigorous, productive suckling, increasing wet diapers, transitional stools)
  • Knowledge of recognizing & managing minor issues (e.g. conjunctivitis, cord-flare, nappy-rash)
  • Access to understanding baby cries (free WHY THEY CRY guide & OH BABY chapter)
  • Jaundice – recognizing the difference between mild, moderate & severe (to access blood-tests of Bilirubin levels for potential
  • Light Phototherapy in a timely manner), and increase feeds, decrease cold-stress & give naked indirect natural light in a well-warmed room
Episode 15: POST-NATAL EP 04 - DAY5-7 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BY THE END OF THE FIRST WEEK

It’s nearly the end of the first week and what an intense week it has been!

MATERNAL:

  • Last BP check up
  • Lochia Discharge (Rubra/Serosa/Alba)
  • Sutures (Perineum/C-Section wound)

  • One-week detailed clinical examination including length, head circumference, reflexes & fraenulum check (tongue-tie)

Episode 16: POST-NATAL EP 05 - DAY10-14 WHAT IS NORMAL FOR YOUR BABY AT THIS STAGE

On today’s episode is an overview about what is normal for your baby this two weeks after birth including Back to birth weight by day 10-14, 8-11 plus Wet diapers daily, Frequent or Infrequent poos (for exclusively Breastmilk fed Babies), 200g (7oz) to 300g (10.5oz) Weight gain weekly.
